Watching tonights game it looked like Queens were the team heading to the SPL and not our near neighbours. This was a well deserved victory and the late consolation goal for Gretna makes the game seem closer than it was. Jamie MacDonald in goals had very little to do and only had to make one save in the 90 minutes when he parried a shot clear. He had no chance with their goal. On another night Stephen Dobbie might have had a hat-trick but the gretna keeper made a number of fine saves. The whole team played very very well and there were no failures.Sean O'Connor scored after 70 minutes then a fine effort from ex Gretna striker David Bingham 5 minutes later gave us a 2 goal lead.
Things did not start too well for Queens when Neil McGowan had to come off injured after 3 minutes to be replaced by Andy Aitken who himself was later forced to leave the field with a head injury. Queens had a trialist centre back from Newcastle playing at Number 5 and he did his chances of a contract no harm whatsoever with a solid display. Jamie McQuilken had an excellent game as did Neil MacFarlane. It was good to see Paul Burns back to something like his old self as well. There were no failures in the Queens side tonight and if we dont get any more injuries and avoid any more suspensions in the early part of the new season I can see us doing quite well. Gretna were very poor tonight and we will certainly have a much harder game on Saturday when Carlisle Utd are the visitors.
MUSKY.
