Supporters Trust Increases Share Investment

The Queen of the South Supporters Trust has increased it’s share in the club to just over 400 shares. Over the past 2 years Supporters have helped fund various activities, including donations to help during transfer windows, player sponsorship, Shirt draw sponsorship, the U-15’s NI Milk Cup team two years running, ball boys training kit and even a new pair of shoes for our club mascot, Dougie the Doonhamer. The most recent investment, was £1500 in the form of a £750 sponsorship of the Club’s training kit, plus a further £750 investment via share purchase, some of which will go towards the training kit cost and the rest towards the community work carried out by Jim Thomson. We’re pretty pleased that after the disappointment of none of the supporters groups being drawn out of the hat at the Shirt Prize Draw, that we’ve been able to negotiate having our logo on the teams Surridge kit for this season (and very smart it looks too!).

At the recent Livingston game, Board Director and Supporters Trust member, Colin Rutherford, came along to accept the cheque from our Trust. Moving forward, the Trust’s aim will be to invest in the club via share purchase and have a say in where we think the money should be used. We obviously will discuss ideas with the Board, as they may have more pressing needs for the money than the ideas we come up with, but at the end of the day anyone who invests sums of money in the club should have some say in where it’s being spent.

We’re proud of the work we’ve done with the Junior Blues. Now in our second year numbers are again around the 400 mark, and, once ball boys and Queens youth team players are included, we will be supporting over 500 Junior Blues Club members this season. Thanks to all the supporters who’ve been involved over the summer months putting up posters, designing adverts, giving out Junior blues forms. You’re efforts have been rewarded with, despite another poor season on the pitch for Queens, a healthy JB club membership.

For the second home match in a row we ran a free raffle for our Junior Blues and, at Saturdays Clyde game, over 100 tickets were handed out along with a free Irn Bru fixtures calendar. Around 40 Junior Blues came round to the East Stand Stall at half-time to see if their winning ticket was drawn out. So far prizes have ranged from footballs, to pennants and on Saturday winners went of with the new Junior Blues t-shirts. With the 5th edition of Blue & White being prepared, the plan is to continue to come up with ideas to make home matches more fun for our Junior Blues, with the aim of building a lifelong bond between them and Queen of the South. Without Queens adult fans support, none of this will happen. Making an effort now will result in progress over the years to come and those that think that simply putting a winning team on the park will build a loyal fan base are short-sighted.

Lois Wright idea to use Queens scarves in her winning t-shirt design won her a Junior Blues Season ticket plus both home and away t-shirt versions of what has now become the Junior Blues Club logo. Congratulations to Lois who is pictured below receiving her prize from Board Director Colin Rutherford alongside her proud Mum.

If we can get a handful of volunteers we aim to have JB Club events this season. More on that soon.

The Supporters Dumfries High St. stall will be up and running again on Saturday 29th September, before the Stirling match from 9am until 1pm. The Trust stall will also be open under the East Stand, from 1:45pm onwards and at half-time. Again, we will be running a free raffle for Junior Blues.

Once again, we would like to thank those fans who make annual and monthly contributions to the Supporters Trust. Without these funds none of this would be possible.
