Sunday 17th Sep QOS U-13's v Queens Park U-13's
First period
Queens U-13's took on their counterparts from Queens Park yesterday (Sunday 17th Sep) at a dull but dry King George V.
In the first few minutes of the first period it was all QOS with 2 or 3 quick corners resulting in QOS no 4 scoring in the 4th minute having hit the Q Park bar only seconds earlier. (QOS 1 Q Park 0 )
In the 8th minute Queens Park had a goalward shot well blocked but only 60 seconds later QOS were right through on goal only for the Q Park defence to get back and block. QOS continued to pressurise their Glasgow based opponents with 3 or 4 more good chances going narrowly passed or being well saved. The last 5 minutes of the half saw Queens Park come more into the game but QOS held on to lead at the end of the first period.
Second Period
Q Park continued the second period the way they ended the first and it was no surprise when they equalised with an excellent
header by no 9 at the near post. (QOS 1 Q Park 1)Ten minutes into the second period QOS's no.16 intercepted a back pass and after rounding the keeper was unlucky not to score.
Q Park continued to slightly edge the second period and with only a couple of minutes to go went ahead after a scramble in
the QOS goalmouth. ( QOS 1 Q Park 2).
Third Period
Three minutes into the third period QOS were awarded a penalty which was well saved by the Q Park goalkeeper. QOS kept
battling on and a minute later QOS's no 3 scored the equaliser after a goalmouth scramble from a corner. As the players
tired there were fewer goalmouth incidents but QOS did have two further chances before the end.
Overall, 2-2 was a fair result with both teams playing some neat football especially in the second period.
Milk Cup
QOS U-15's started pre-season early with their involvement in the prestigious Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland.
With teams form all over the world Queens U-15’s, resplendent in their new kit provided by various supporters groups, found themselves up against Irish, American and English opposition.
After a defeat against Crumlin Utd, Queens went on to defeat San Francisco Utd 4-1 to qualify for the BT Trophy. Queens then went down to a strong Co Londonderry side 3-0 . A further loss to Co Armagh was followed by a narrow loss to Dundalk.
All the youngsters gained valuable experience against very strong and experienced opposition and finished in their highest position since their involvement in the tournament.
