The Queens Trust Committee

Louise Currie

Louise is ’21 again’ and works as a midwife. A Queens supporter for some years, Louise became Vice Chairman of the Supporters Trust in January. Louise is also a member of the Doonhamer Travel Club committee and, whether home and away, work permitting, tries not to miss her weekend outings to follow Queens. Louise’s husband Frank and her two daughters, Aimee and Alison are also staunch Doonhamer fans.

I’m around my late 30's (ok...I admit it...I’m 40!!) and have been a Queens fan for 38 years. I went to my first game when I was two years old and have been going ever since. I’m married to Margaret-Rose and we have 2 boys (Stuart 10 & Euan 7), who are both Junior Blues. Apart from following QOS, I am a football coach with local youth football club Heston Rovers.

Martin Buchan

I'm 20 Years old, and have been supporting Queens for around 10 years.  I'm engaged to Karen Wright who also helps out the trust and we plan to marry in 2008.  My proudest moment as a Queens fan was when we won the 2nd Division at Forfar.  I got involved with the trust through Dave Linden when he asked me to help out at the fun day, and at home games handing out leaflets.  I have been on the committee since the start of the year and I am enjoying the challange.

Rebecca Edgar

Hi, I'm Rebecca and I'm 16 yrs old and I've been following Queens for a very long time now I'd say about 10 years. I love coming along to all the games either home or away i try to get to them all! I believe the trust is a brilliant way for Queens fans to get involved with their local heroes - The Doonhamers! My favourite player is Graham Weir and I hope he has a great season and scores a bucket load of goals!

Fraser Maclean

I’m 30 years old, work for BusinessPost and have been a Queens fan for 14 years. I live in Glasgow and enjoy playing and watching football and meeting Queens fans in the central belt to raise money and awareness for the Trust. I’m keen to get other people in the central belt involved, particularly in the east of Scotland where we have another army of Doonhamers!

David Linden

I’m 44, born in Dumfries where I live with my partner Frances, and have a daughter, Kirsty, who is 12. A Queens fan since the age of six, I’ve witnessed most of the great Queens matches over the last thirty odd years, including the classic Ayr Utd cup matches, the 6-0 victory over Dundee, the night we beat Rangers over 90mins and have stood in crowds of 14 and 18,000 at Palmerston, something that we will never see again.

I’ve been actively involved in the Queens Supporters Trust since it’s conception and have seen it grow from nothing to nearly 400 members in just over a year. The Trust has raised over £13,000 in that time, investing over £4000 in club shares and around £5000 in sponsoring the club via player, shirt prize draw sponsorship plus promoting the club via the Guid Nychburris parade and the Junior Blues. We negotiated an £18 season ticket for the JB’s with the Board. This price reduction and supporters promoting the package over the close season has seen an increase in Junior Blues from 135 to nearly 400 and rising. We now actively run and promote the Junior Blues on behalf of Queens and have just released the first ever Blue and White magazine for Junior Blues, on the back of our success with our Queens Youth Trust which also has 140 members from Ecclefechan to Bangkok.

The efforts of supporters groups over the last year has shown what can be done when everyone works together. There is so much potential and I feel we have only scratched the surface of what is possible. The integration of Queen of the South Football club, it’s board, it’s supporters and the community is essential if Queens are to survive over the next few years and turn itself around into a ‘real’ Community club. Even without the threat of Gretna Football Club the job was difficult. It just got  a lot harder. To change things we need EVERY Queens supporter to become part of Queen of the South by joining its Supporters Trust.

Will Clark

Dumfries born and bred, I’m from a big family of Queens supporters. My late Dad took me to my first match in the late 1950s, and that was me hooked.

I work in the Education and Community Services department of the local council and have done for over thirty years; I started as a primary teacher and have worked in a number of schools in Dumfries, Annan, Haugh of Urr and Glencaple. The last of these is my local school as I live at Caerlaverock, and all my four kids went to that school before moving out into the world. I now work as an ICT Development Officer in schools across the region.

When the Queens Trust was first suggested I saw right away that this was a fantastic opportunity for Queens to draw fans into involvement with the club, and so again take an important role in the community, as well as protecting themselves from some of the financial difficulties that have ravaged teams across Scottish football. I’m proud and delighted to be involved with such a committed group.

Age is not important...I am currently the Treasurer for the Trust and in my “spare time” work for DuPont Performance Coatings and travel round their sites in Europe!  I must admit I was introduced to Queens at quite a late-ish stage in life.  I was dragged (I am ashamed to say “dragged” is probably no exaggeration, but I did not know any better at the time …) by my partner, David, to my first match at Palmerston just 7 years ago – and have to admit I was hooked from that day on (well maybe it was after the first 10 games).

In my opinion the Trust brings many opportunities and advantages to the club. However, personally, the Trust and the club present me with several drawbacks; to name but a few – David is constantly working on “Queens Stuff”, dinner table topics revolve solely around the Trust, Queens and more Trust, “holidays” are dictated by the away fixture list (I have been on countless mini-breaks – Inverness Palace & Thistle Hotels, Thistle Haydock, Limavady Radisson Coleraine, Dunkeld Hilton Perth, Glasgow Millennium & Langs, Dundee Spa hotel, Stirling Highland Park….for sure there is a pattern emerging), birthday “treats” are represented by matchday hospitality, and as for odd jobs round the house – no chance!
